photo illustration

The photo below shows an interpritation of the five sec. rule. This rule is well known among people but the photographer put a twist on it by showing you the ground and what has been on it and what you may be eating. By putting the shoe in the backroung it shows that you are basicly eating what ever is on the bottom of that shoe. The clock just further clarifys the essence of the photo.

The below image symbolizes how we should put aside our differences in time of war and bring peace through putting a side our weapons and looking at what really matters. I like the photo because it shows that the gun is rusted this means that you must have been using the weapon for a long time and that shows that this is not the first war we have been in. However the twisted barrel shows that we should learn from our past mistakes and create something new and beautiful from them "the flower"

The image above is a photo that is entitled "In Your Dreams" it shows a simple beach and a man. This symbolizes that you don't need to have luxeries to be in a beautiful paradise. I personally love it because it looks like an oil pastel painting. If this photo was straight foward and not manipulated to look like a painting it would have lost the dream like aspect of the photo.

Photo Illustrations

My favorite photo illustration was the one of he child abuse of the two young school childeren. When I first saw it I thought it reated to the story but didn't have a lot of meaning behind it. However as I read the description I thought of what the burnt edges really ment and why the paper figures where hollow. It made alot of scence, you truly have an attention for detail to think of something like this while maintaining the innocence of the victim.

Favorite Hughes pic.

My favorite Langston Hughes pic. is "American Gothic" this photo is a modification of the original American Gothic were a farmer and his wife holding pitch forks, they were holding pitch forks because that was the way they made thier living back then. The Langston Hughes version puts a spin on this and has a women in front of the American flag holding a broom and mop.

Langston Hughes Poems

I read Langston Hughes's poems for about 20 minutes. My favorite poem was "Let America be America Again" it was a great poem and it makes you think about the the raw America and what it used to be and what it is now. It also makes you think if America ever was really what our founding fathers dreamed of.

Cover History

Early Magazine Covers - The early magazine covers consist mainly of hand drawn art work and a title that is bigger than everything else and always tells you that it's a magazine. For example "American Magazine" or "Mother's Magazine". The text is usually written above the image or below it but not on the image or merged with the image on the cover. They also don't have a really big section of text.

Poster Covers - Poster covers are the simplest magazine cover. The main attributes of the poster cover is one dominant photo. This dominant photo doesn't have text merged on to it. It usually has the name of the magaizne in large bold text across the top of the magazine. They also have some smaller text in the lower left or right hand corner of the magazine.

Pictures Married to Type - In this layout the title of the magazine is written in large letters and the model's head is usually overlaping the title of the title is overlaping the model's hair. The models are almost always in a full body pose. The text of the magazine is also placed according to the backround and the placement of the model. The text would usually be to the left of right of the model and spiral downward.

In the Forest of Words - This layout is all about text and catching the persons eye with bright and bold text. In this type of layout the model(s) take second to the text. The models appear in the backround and a collage of words cover them. The words are written in bold letters to catch the reader's eye and tells the viewer what articles are going to be discussed in the magazine. These articles are mainly aimed toward women.

Best Covers

1. Environmental

2. Informal (*Favorite*)
Vanity Fair (August 1991)Vanity Fair’s provocative cover shot of the naked and hugely pregnant Demi Moore (also shot by Annie Leibovitz) projected the actress to even greater heights after the huge success of the movie Ghost the previous year. The cover helped firmly establish Moore as a member of Hollywood’s A-List at the time.
This is a beautiful cover. It shows a very pregnant Demi Moore nude showing the confidence in her own skin. The lighting for this portrait is a suddel lighting from the side. There is also a solid backround. If there was anything in the backround it would have taken away from the beautiy of the innocence and beauty of her body. This portrait shows how confident Demi is in her own skin.

Color Shoot

I would like to shoot the mini D.OA.B for jrotc. A D.O.A.B is an awards assembely in which the cadets recieve their ribbions for the first semester. It will be held in the theater on January 17 (this Thursday) I will need to reserve a camera if possbible, thank you :]

favorite portrait

Mark Seliger uses light to his advantage and in this picture he is smart in his choice of light being the candles. The candels go with the picutre and it also gives the man a scary look.
In my photos I would like to emulate the way he plays up light in his photos. The light sources give the photos different different meanings based on the position and I would like to do that as well.
