The main point of the University Wisconsin-Madison contriversy is a point that may never be understood. The scandal is, should photographers be able to alter photos. They can but is it ethical and at what point is it going to far.
I believe that it is ok to alter photos as long as you don't change the subject or the subject matter. Also you shouldn't make major changes to the photo. I believe that the only thing you should be able to ger rid of simple changes and small blemishes. I think that the alter was OK because it didn't change the subject matter it just made the picture look better. However I think that an altered photo shouldn't win such an honorable award.
The Iowa tooth job isn't that bad a tooth job doesn't change the Iowa Miricale. On the other hand the Gulf War 2 picture was a major change that shouldn't have been altered.
