Photojormalims Ethics 1.3

1. Who made the decision to alter the sweater?
The night news editor made the decision.

2. How did they alter it?
They made the sweater longer to cover up the dark leotard she was wearing under.

3. Why does altering it break the rules in policies you read in 1.2?
The editor drasticly changed the photo by completly covering up the leotard, which was not covered in the original photo.

4. What is the difference between a real-life photo and an illustration?
An illusion changes the real situation while a real- photo has not been altured or has changed the photo so you think you see something that's not really there.

4. Is altering the photo ok in this case and why? (write 2-3 sentence justification for your answer.)
I think altering was ok because it doesn't change what the dancer was doing it was more of a moral decision for me that an ethics one.

5. How did they get caught?
They got because the photographer and the editor caught the switch when they opened the paper the next morning.

6. How did the paper change its policy as a result of this incident?
The paper now says that there will be "No digital manipulation of news photos under any circumstances."

Photojormalims Ethics 1.2

1. What, in general, do both organizations say about altering the content or truth of a photograph?
In general both organizations say that it is ok if the altering gets the photo close to what the photographer actually saw and it is accurate.

2. What specific techniques do both organizations say are at times permissible?
The both say that altering a photo just to get rid of small blemishes and scratches is ok, like croping.

3. For what reasons do both organizations give as valid reasons for slightly altering photos?
Both organizations say it is ok as long as it is close to what the photographer actually saw.

Photojormalims Ethics 1.1

1. Which of the two pictures do you think is fake, and what specific elements in the photo indicate this? (Look closely)I think the bottom one is fake, because the shadows on the mans face and on the plane don't match.
2. Why do you think someone would fake a photo like this?
I think people would do something like this because they think that they're gonna get alot of good hype and be famous but really they're just embarrasing them selves.
3. Is it wrong to fake a photo like this?
I think that it is morally wrong and is kinda like making fun of all the people that lost their lives in this horrible event.
4. Under what circumstances would it be wrong for a news organization to run a fake photo?
AFTER you have written your answers (no peeking),
I think that a news oraganization shouldn't run a photo if it changes the subject or if it is morally wrong like the second picture.

U.W. 11/28

The main point of the University Wisconsin-Madison contriversy is a point that may never be understood. The scandal is, should photographers be able to alter photos. They can but is it ethical and at what point is it going to far.
I believe that it is ok to alter photos as long as you don't change the subject or the subject matter. Also you shouldn't make major changes to the photo. I believe that the only thing you should be able to ger rid of simple changes and small blemishes. I think that the alter was OK because it didn't change the subject matter it just made the picture look better. However I think that an altered photo shouldn't win such an honorable award.
The Iowa tooth job isn't that bad a tooth job doesn't change the Iowa Miricale. On the other hand the Gulf War 2 picture was a major change that shouldn't have been altered.

First reall photo. assignment

1. One of the problems I had was that i knew the people that i was shooting so they were always trying to say hi and it was really hard to get a candid shot. To deal with this I to tell them if they didn't pay attention to the flight commander and stop looking at me they would have to stand at attention for the rest of the class.

2. Since this was my first assignment ever the only thing i really knew about was focus. So I tryed to get that right every time there for that was the only thing I thought about.

3. I didn't know any of the advances composition techniques so I wasn't thinking about any of them.

I wasn't here when we first cleaned negatives or did anything else, so i don't know what else to post.
